Hearing Tests

What Happens During a Hearing Test?
Having a hearing test is easy, painless, and informative.
Here’s what to expect:
- Pure Tone Testing: You’ll hear a series of beeps and whistles through headphones and indicate when you hear them. This measures the softest sounds you can detect, from low (bass) to high (treble). Results are plotted on an audiogram.
- Speech Testing: Lists of words are played at different volumes. You repeat what you hear, even if you have to guess, to assess your understanding of speech.
- Middle Ear Testing: A soft rubber tip is placed in your ear. Air is gently pumped, and a humming sound is played. This checks your eardrum function, middle ear health, and detects any congestion or damage.
After testing, your audiologist will explain your results and discuss options if a hearing loss is detected. Options may include hearing aids, assistive listening devices, or a referral to your doctor if medical management is needed.
